Radish Seeds

The front garden is my seed garden. So today I wanted to bring you up to speed on my radishes.

I won't bother to show you radishes that you eat, go to the market and by some if you want to see them. The picture above is of the plants gone to flower.

Here is a close up of the little flowers
And here is a close up of the seed pods. You let these go until the plant goes brown and dry, then pull the plant and hang it upside down for a couple of weeks.

When everything is dry, then open the seed pods and harvest the seed. I usually store mine in paper envelopes in tupperware.

Now THIS is a useful blog entry!
My first radishes are almost edible, but I'm going to let a bunch of them go to seed... they're a good heirloom variety.

So thanks... I have a bunch of material printed out on saving seeds. But this helps.

Did you ever get a turntable? I just spent a week rehabbing an old Dual 1219 for a friend in San Francisco... other than gardening, working on old electromechanical turntables is my favorite activity right now. Devices that work on mechanical principles (with a few switches run by cams, etc.) is so much more satisfying, somehow, than working on devices that operate based on ROMs and computer code. You can see it and touch it.

That's pretty interesting...I don't think I've ever seen radishes that have gone to seed before.

I'd like to see more of this kind of article on gathering seeds...good information, I think!

Makes a pretty little flower, doesn't it?
