Appears to me

The tea partiers are such dumbasses that they don't even see that they are getting set up.

Yup seems the most appropriate response, though it presupposes intelligence on the part of whomever's doing the setting up.

I don't deny wondering.

An intriguing idea, but to me the current fiasco doesn't seem all that orchestrated and controlled. It seems more like the clusterfuck hitting the fan. Who do you think set the Teafraggers up, and for what?

Morning to you. A covey of conspiracy theorists could make a mountain out of the possibilities. The Koch brothers, to have someone louder mouthed between them and their friends to scapegoat when the chickens come home to roost, maybe. The guy in the Whitehouse by sitting on his hands and mildly protesting while tacitly letting them 'win' what they think they want is another possiblility.
The coincidence coordinators just sitting back and smiling to watch the fallout.

But I tend to subscribe to the clusterfuck theory of the winds of history, similarly to your own bias in that direction.

People aren't smart enough, honest enough, determined enough [for the most part] to make good, successful conspirators.

At least not long-term conspirators of the sort so many love to fear, such as the masons, rosicrucians, Skull and Bones, etc.

However, an occasional short term conspiracy might be possible, and the Tea Bag thing seems to me to be a definite short-term phenomenon.
