Once you give something, you reset the bar and it is hard to take it away.
Sort of the same reason you would resist greatly them reducing your wages even if they could prove that that new computer they bought you is making your job 20% easier.
It's the entitlement mentality. Folks want something for nothing, will take advantage of everything, then get upset when the freebies are taken away. Those people are in for a rude awakening...
